Dead ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) along the foothills of the eastern Cascade Range in Washington.
Sad ... almost creepy ... why is it dead? Disease?
ReplyDeleteGreat question! Not sure. It looked like it bit the dust a while ago. Given its age, it probably wasn't fire (older ponderosa pine like this are adapted to low intensity fire). I think disease, fungus, or some kind of bug (or some combo of these) is the likely culprit.
